Bugisu Parliamentary forum is demanding for an apology from the state minister of culture Peace Mutuzo that Imbalu be banned.
The forum noted that Mutuzo called imbalu a backward and barbaric practice.
The members say they will petition the appointments committee to ensure she steps down.
Last week while the minister was addressing the press on the world cultural day at media center she said the imbalu practice should be banned because it is backward, promotes sexual violence, and leads to the transmission of HIV/AIDS.
The members of parliament led by their vice chairperson Nambeshe JohnBaptist strongly condemned Mutuzo's remarks.
They say leaders and the Bagisu and Bamasaba people are angry. Nambeshe said that imbalu not only reserves the culture and norms among Bagisu but also reserves their dignity and manhood on top of entertainment.
Bulambuli MP Buruno Alex stressed that no one is coerced to get circumcised as the minister claims.
The MPs add that if she refuses to apologise they will ensure she doesn't not step on Bugisu land and they will also take action.
